Funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by Education New Zealand, the New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships are a significant educational opportunity and reflect the New Zealand Government's commitment to deepening New Zealand's educational partnerships with participating countries and regions. This scholarship programme is about sharing New Zealand excellence with the rest of the world, and bringing the best from elsewhere to share their knowledge with New Zealand.



Value

The scholarship funding covers:

1.
Full tuition fees for three (3) years of full-time doctoral study.
2.
NZ$18,000 per annum living allowance (NZ$1500 per month).
3.
Up to NZ$600 per annum health insurance allowance.
4.
NZ$2000 (across 3 year tenure) travel allowance which is intended to be used for conference attendance and field research.
5.
NZ$800 (across 3 year tenure) book and thesis allowance.
6.
NZ$500 One-off establishment allowance. Only to be paid to those students who are travelling to NZ specifically to take up the NZIDRS. (No student already located in NZ is eligible to receive this amount).
7.
Additional funds are not available to support accompanying dependants.

Conditions

Eligibility:

1.
Applicants must meet the requirements for entry into a research-based doctoral degree programme at a New Zealand university. Most doctoral programmes are research-based.
2.
The (NZIDRS) Scholarships are open to all International Students meeting the eligibility criteria.
3.
Prospective candidates are advised to start corresponding with academics in the relevant departments of New Zealand universities regarding the availability of appropriate supervision well in advance of submitting their application papers.
4.
Evidence that supervision is available is required as a part of the NZIDRS application process.
5.
Students currently on scholarships funded by the New Zealand Government, such as NZAID or Commonwealth Scholarships, are ineligible.
6.
If you have received a qualification from a New Zealand institution under the NZAID scheme, you may apply for a NZIDRS only if it has been more than two years since the completion of the NZAID scholarship and you have spent that interim period in the country designated as your home country when you received the NZAID scholarship.
7.
Please note the English language requirements listed in the scholarship information carefully.
8.
Please have your TOEFL test results sent directly to Education New Zealand (our TOEFL College Board number is 8727).
9.
The TOEFL test scores must have been achieved no more than two years prior to the application close date.
10.
The language test results document must be either an original or a certified copy.
11.
Please note that due to the high number of forged English Language documents in circulation all test scores will be verified with the relevant testing organisation.
