AHRC Professional Preparation Master’s Scheme, The
The Professional Preparation Master’s Scheme provides support for students intending to proceed to a career in professional practice, who are undertaking a Master’s or Postgraduate Diploma course that will prepare them specifically for that professional practice.
Value
Awards in this competition fall into two categories:
1.
A full award covers both the cost of tuition fees, up to the RCUK maximum, and a maintenance grant.
2.
A fees-only award provides payment of tuition fees, up to the RCUK maximum, but not a maintenance grant.
Conditions
To be eligible for a full award
*
To be eligible for a full award, you must show that you have a relevant connection with the UK, usually through residence.
*
Students previously resident in the EU but who have been in the UK in full time education for the 3 years prior to the start of the course for which they are applying for an award, will also be eligible for a full award.
To be eligible for a fees-only award
*
To be eligible for a fees-only award, you must have been ordinarily resident in the EU for the three years immediately preceding the start of the academic year in which your course will commence.
Academic criteria:
1.
In order to apply, you must have been accepted, either firmly or provisionally, by an HEI to undertake the course of study for which you are seeking funding.
2.
You should also be a graduate of a recognised HEI, or an undergraduate expecting to graduate before 31 July 2008.
3.
If by the start of your award you will have already gained or completed the requirements for a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma, you are eligible to apply provided your studies were not funded by AHRC or its predecessors.
4.
If you have already gained a Master's degree, you are eligible to apply if it was in an unrelated subject and was not funded by the AHRC or its predecessors.
5.
Exceptions to this are the undergraduate level MA's from Oxford, Cambridge or a Scottish HEI, which are not classified as Master's level qualifications for our purposes.
Please note that if you have already gained or completed the requirements of a doctoral degree in any subject, however funded, you are not eligible to apply.
